Nuclear medicine offers a safe, painless and cost-effective method of managing and treating your disease.
Nuclear medicine is the medical specialty using radioactive tracers and drugs (radiopharmaceuticals) for diagnostic scans and treatments. Radioactive tracers are an efficient way to gather critical information at very early stages of a disease, without the pain and cost of surgery, while discovering any abnormalities that may exist.
Beaumont's Nuclear Medicine program features a board-certified team of nuclear medicine physicians who maximizes the value of advanced technologies to provide an essential part of care for patients who choose Beaumont. Our team includes:
We provide our patients with the most advanced diagnostic tests and treatments. The Positron Emission Tomography (PET) Center in Nuclear Medicine is the busiest center in Michigan, offering the latest PET testing for staging and treatment follow-ups for all types of cancer.
At Beaumont Troy, the department was the first in Michigan to offer SPECT/CT scans. This study combines the functional imaging of SPECT - a nuclear imaging test that uses a radioactive substance and special camera to create pictures of your organs - with anatomic localization of CT in one piece of equipment.
Nuclear medicine physicians also offer therapies in thyroid cancer, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, cancerous bone pain and hyperthyroidism. Our physicians act as consultants for patients and their physicians to determine the appropriateness of a therapy and then provide it.
